22.11.2023 | ISSEY MIYAKE SHINJUKU | SHIKAKU A-POC ABLE ISSEY MIYAKE “TADANORI YOKOO ISSEY MIYAKE 4”
The SHIKAKU at ISSEY MIYAKE SHINJUKU presents an installation, “TADANORI YOKOO ISSEY MIYAKE 4” by A-POC ABLE ISSEY MIYAKE.
Tadanori Yokoo is an artist whose constant embrace of change has made him a pioneer of our time. “TADANORI YOKOO ISSEY MIYAKE” reconstructs the ever-flowing energy of Mr Yokoo’s works in a single piece of cloth to explore the further potential of clothing. This is a special project by A-POC ABLE ISSEY MIYAKE that integrates both the joy of appreciating artwork and the fun of wearing clothes.
From Tuesday, 12 September to Sunday, 3 December 2023, the exhibition, Tadanori Yokoo: 100 Takes on Hanshan and Shide *, takes place at the Hyokeikan gallery of the Tokyo National Museum, debuting 102 new pieces of Mr Yokoo’s series, “Kanzan Jittoku” which reconstructs Kanzan and Jittoku (Hanshan and Shide) through his original interpretation. In this fifth installment of the series TADANORI YOKOO ISSEY MIYAKE 4, dresses were released using 10 pieces of Mr Yokoo’s latest works from Hanshan and Shide as a motif.
Two types of dresses reproducing the Rhythm Pleats series, first released in the ISSEY MIYAKE Spring Summer 1990 collection, are created using A-POC ABLE’s original Steam Stretch technique. The Rhythm Pleats form is woven into a single piece of cloth and then shrunk with the heat of steam to complete the pleats. The flat square clothing, on which Mr Yokoo’s work is printed, transforms dynamically into a three-dimensional form when worn.
A special installation-style exhibition has been held at SHIKAKU, our newest exhibition space at ISSEY MIYAKE SHINJUKU. Please come and experience the energy of Mr Yokoo’s works for yourself.
