21.10.2026 | A-POC ABLE ISSEY MIYAKE Launch of New Project “TYPE-XVII JAXA project”
Launch date: Sunday, 1 November.

A-POC ABLE ISSEY MIYAKE announces “TYPE-XVII JAXA project,” a collaboration with the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA). Based on the image of the Earth captured by JAXA’s climate change observation satellite “SHIKISAI” (GCOM-C), this project presents jeans in which the observation image data is woven into a single piece of cloth using A-POC ABLE’s own advanced jacquard weaving technology.
“SHIKISAI” (GCOM-C) observes the Earth every day, delivering important data for addressing the various issues we face, such as climate change, disasters, and resources. At the same time, the Earth as seen from space is astonishingly beautiful, reminding us that it is irreplaceable.
This time, we present jeans designed based on an observation image of the Antarctic Continent. Antarctica is one of the harshest environments on Earth. Most of the continent is covered by the Antarctic ice sheet, which has an average thickness of about 2 km. A vast expanse of white ice, with the deep blue sea peeking through its cracks. That vivid contrast captivates the viewer while quietly turning attention to the changes taking place on Earth.
By wearing these jeans, you can use clothing, something familiar to us, as an opportunity to think about the connection between the view of the Earth captured from distant space and our daily lives. Through this connection, we hope the jeans will serve as a source of inspiration for reflecting on the value of observation data and thinking about the global environment.

This exhibition is an attempt to connect the different fields of “science” and “design” to reconsider “a single piece of cloth,” the concept at the core of ISSEY MIYAKE’s approach to making things, and to explore new possibilities for the future of clothing. .
In addition, from 1 November, the A-POC SPACE at A-POC ABLE ISSEY MIYAKE / AOYAMA presents an exhibition in dialogue format titled “DIALOGUES,” where visitors can see the background from which the project emerged, and the process of thought and experimentation built up through encounters with different fields.
