Form is merely a symbol,
while the true essence rests deep within.

As the surface is pared away,
drawn closer to that quiet presence,

from a piece of cloth,
the sense of something “proper”
begins to rise.

The IM MEN Autumn Winter 2026/27 collection, FORMLESS FORM was presented on Thursday, 22 January, at the Collège des Bernardins, a former school built in the 13th century in Paris’s 5th arrondissement.

Dawn and dusk, they appear at the seam of a day.
Moments when something begins, and when something ends.

Could the sensation that rises in everyday life, that makes you want to straighten up, be expressed through a piece of cloth?

This collection begins with considering that question.
“Just a piece of cloth to form something proper.”

Stepping away from pre-existing ideas of shapes and forms, this collection explores the essence hidden within formality. From a piece of cloth, IM MEN created garments that convey a “proper” attitude and intention, born from unrestricted freedom of creativity.

CLAY

CLAY is a series that creates sculptural forms through a uniquely developed singular textile. Combining a flat surface with a rib-knit like structure that contracts with heat — both coexist within a single piece of cloth. The textured surface produces unexpectedly sculptural silhouettes that cannot be imagined from flat patterns alone. At the same time, the fabric’s stretch allows it to gently conform to the wearer’s body, providing ease of movement and a comfortable fit. This intentional design suits a range of scenarios, allowing the pieces to be worn on both casual and formal occasions.

DAWN

DAWN is an outerwear series that captures the beautiful, fleeting moments found in changing skies, into textiles through artisanal dyeing techniques. Gradually, shifting colours unfold across a single piece of cloth, evoking an early morning sky and the fading light of dusk. To highlight the artistry of the fabric, which features a hand-crafted three-colour gradation, each garment is individually cut and sewn, and finished with clean lines. The front panels of fabric, designed to resemble the layering of a large stole, can be crossed and worn like a double-breasted coat, allowing multiple styling variations.

OVERLAP

OVERLAP is a coat that features a chest flap and rain guard in a single piece of cloth. By undoing the sleeve cuffs designed to gather the fabric, the garment can be worn like a poncho. The shoulder epaulettes can also be used to lift the fabric to create alternative silhouettes. The lightweight cotton-nylon blend offers an organic and comfortable feel, while maintaining just the right amount of firmness. A wash finish further enhances the fabric, creating a richly textured, expressive surface. The series also includes trousers with a relaxed, voluminous silhouette.

GRADATION WOOL

GRADATION WOOL is a wool series that uses a dyeing technique where each roll of fabric is individually poured with dye, resulting in distinctive colours and unique patterns. The cropped jacket and jumpsuit can be worn as a two-piece ensemble by opening the zips placed on the sides. The wide-leg trousers feature a thick belt reminiscent of a cummerbund. The combination of refined fabrications and design details gives the garments a distinctive, sophisticated formality.

RAFT

RAFT is an outerwear series featuring a padded silhouette. Quilted from a matte textured fabric, the long coat and jacket are filled with a corded insulation made of recycled polyester that provides warmth similar to padding down. Beyond its one-of-a-kind design, the coat’s voluminous, sculptural form traps air, providing superior warmth.

KASURI

KASURI is a series of kasuri* weaves, specialising in combining boldness with intricacy. It uses four distinct types of yarn, one type dyed in three separate colours, plus three types of yarn of varying shades. The slight misalignment of patterns during the weaving process creates a richly textured linear design that reveals the human touch. Its charm also lies in its unexpectedly soft texture, far beyond what one might imagine from its appearance. The jacket and asymmetrical trousers are constructed from a single rectangular piece of cloth, forming rich draping. The jacket offers versatile styling options with adjustable button placements at the chest that allow it to be worn as a hood or stole.

*Kasuri is a traditional weaving technique that arranges partly pre-dyed yarn on a loom, which weaves to create patterns or colours in gradients.

FRONT BACK

FRONT BACK is a series made from a wool fabric with distinct fabric textures on each side. The matte woolen surface contrasts with the subtle sheen of elegant satin found on the reverse side. The coat and jacket are constructed using a continuous pattern extending from the body to the sleeves, so the satin lining is visible along the collar and sleeve edges when folded back. When worn as a sleeveless style, it transforms into a long vest, whilst the sleeves can be elegantly draped like a hood or stole, allowing creative and versatile styling.

SELVEDGE WOOL

SELVEDGE WOOL is a series made with premium, supple wool, produced entirely in Bishu, Japan. This area is renowned for its high quality wool production, where every step from spinning to finishing is carried out. To emphasise its flowing, draped silhouette, the ‘IM MEN’ name is woven along the fabric’s selvedge. Designed based on a structure that folds into a square, the garments reveal an organic drape when worn.

LEATHER PLEATS

LEATHER PLEATS is a series of bags crafted from natural leather. These bags feature large pleats that blend structured, sharp cuts with soft, flowing lines, reflecting the aesthetic of the IM MEN clothing. They are soft to the touch, and over time, the natural luster will deepen, bringing out the inherent characteristics of the material itself.

TO GO

TO GO is inspired by takeout coffee cups. This product explores the playful silhouette of the familiar paper cup by reinterpreting it in leather. The design highlights the subtle functional beauty of everyday objects, while also drawing attention to how different materials can alter the perception of form.
