ENGRAVE

This series is characterised by its textile, which offers a unique three-dimensional look created using a jacquard loom to weave multicoloured threads. It draws inspiration from ceramic artist Shoji Kamoda’s work “Waved Patterns,” featuring impressive wave-like carved patterns that are seamlessly integrated into the form. These carvings appear naturally creased yet are meticulously calculated, and to express them in in textile form, stretch thread is blended into the weft, and different weaving structures are used so that the sides rise vertically at right angles. The fabric is also heat-shrunk to create a three-dimensional look and edges reminiscent of the carved patterns. All the items in this series take on a three-dimensional form when the zip is closed; when the zip is opened, they become flat, revealing the carvings in their entirety as if viewing the “Waved Patterns” dish top-down.
