A knit series giving something that is supposed to be soft, a sense of stiffness, exploring an iteration that is in between. By blending wool/alpaca yarn with thermoplastic synthetic fibers, when heat-pressed, the fabric hardens and forms crisp edges with a slight sheen—unusual for knitwear. The series has an oversized fit with a crisp silhouette, juxtaposing rigidity and softness.

URUSHI PLEATS ACCESSORY

Accessories that combine ISSEY MIYAKE’s pleated material with the traditional techniques of Shitsurindo, an urushi lacquer workshop specialising in the traditional craft of Echizen lacquerware in Sabae City, Fukui Prefecture. Leftover fabrics used in the past are pleated and then stretched diagonally one by one, while artisans repeatedly apply layers of lacquer to complete each item. The items are characterised by encapsulating the warmth of handcrafts and the impression of supple pleats seemingly suspended in motion. The necklace has different colours on the front and back.
