01.07.2026 | ISSEY MIYAKE KYOTO | KURA “WALL WHITE HEM”

The KURA gallery at ISSEY MIYAKE KYOTO presents KURA Exhibition “WALL WHITE HEM.”

WALL WHITE HEM

Inspiration drawn from the fundamental process of single-line drawings. The simple act of drawing a line and touching a surface gradually expanded into the concept of considering the “wall” itself as an object to be drawn on. From there, the idea extended further, toward the “earth” beneath it, evolving into patterns and textures reminiscent of natural soil.

In this exhibition, HaaT presents WALL WHITE HEM, which is a series featuring patterns that evoke brushstrokes across a wall. The prints are applied onto a light chiffon fabric at a dyeing studio in Kyoto, woven from cotton blended with silk. The fabric’s distinctive gradation is created by layering three separate print plates. Partially overlaid areas of plain white fabric subtly peeking through the reverse side and hem add a sense of intentional fading, tonal depth, and airiness to the garments, while maintaining a rich and dimensional expression.

At the venue, green walls enveloping three sides of the space evoke the natural hues that blend into the Kyoto scenery throughout the entire exhibition. At the centre, an installation presents the supple textiles and garments themselves alongside documentation of the textile printing process. We invite you to experience the delicate interplay of colours unfolding within these light and airy textiles.
